How to Read The Australian

"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organised habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country." Edward Bernays

Nazi note posted on rally website, Christian Kerr, The Australian, 8/10/12

"A Holocaust-era Nazi slogan has appeared on a website promoting a rally in Melbourne this week in support of the anti-Israeli Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement as fears of increasing violence anti-Semitism as its actions grow."

But WHO posted it, and WHY?

"The comment - 'Wir mussen die Juden ausrotten', which translates as 'We must exterminate Jews' was posted on a Facebook page for a rally scheduled for this Friday outside the State Library of Victoria."

Hmm, Google 'Wir mussen die Juden ausrotten' and what do you get? Endless references to a 2004 episode of South Park called The Passion of the Jew, a satire of Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ. Cartman believes that Gibson's message is that Jews are evil and forms a goose-stepping Gibson fan club, which he leads onto the streets with the chant Wir mussen die Juden ausrotten.

"The comment was 'liked' by two people before it was deleted."

But WHO 'liked' it and WHY? Oh, I see, it was deleted! End of 'story', right? Not on your nelly, Christian's only just warming up.

"The Australian was unable to contact the organisers of Friday's rally, Students for Palestine, yesterday."

Too busy goose-stepping and boning up on their German, eh Christian?

"The BDS movement explicitly links Israel with apartheid-era South Africa. 'Free Palestine, boycott pro-apartheid corporations,' the Facebook page for Friday's action reads."

EXPLICITLY! Explicitly! Jeez, these blokes don't hold anything back, do they?

"Jewish community figures were reluctant to comment on the posting."

This is my absolute fave line.  Kerr calls them, they don't call him? Really? Zionist lobbyists are reluctant to comment? You're kidding me? Since when?

"Instead, they pointed to growing fears of violence around the BDS movement and online anti-Semitism cloaked as anti-Zionism."

So much for reluctant to comment. Oh, come on, guys! Just come out and say it! We're absolutely terrified that the goose-stepping Cartman and his Gibsonites are getting ready to take over Melbourne and none of us will be safe.

"Two BDS protesters arrested in Melbourne last year were found guilty in July of assaulting police at a protest outside a local Max Brenner chocolate shop."

Assaulting police? What, with a panzer division?

"BDS advocates claim the Max Brenner chain belongs to the Israeli-owned Strauss Group of food and confectionery manufacturers, which produces some rations for the Israeli Defence Forces. Jewish community figures say that is wrong and Australian Max Brenner stores are locally owned and operate under licence."

So no money goes to Strauss for Israeli army "rations"? So Israel is not an apartheid state? So there is not now and never has been a Palestinian people? So the Queen's dogs aren't corgis?

"They say BDS action in Sydney appears to be shifting from the Max Brenner in Newtown to the Parramatta outlet."

You know, for people reluctant to comment, "they" sure have a lot to say.

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode in the series: BDS marchers 'goose step' past Max Brenner outlet. Senior Constable Plod: 'Not your usual protester shuffle.' Jewish community leaders reluctant to comment.
